As a collegiate member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, I always
wanted to create a video that would help solve the identity crisis, as
it were, the fraternity had been facing. The video needed to be fresh
and it needed to show a glimpse of not only what the fraternity was on
the surface but indeed what the experience of becoming and living as a
Sinfonian is all about. It needed to show the emotional impact and
pride the members of the fraternity truly feel. All of this resulted
in the concept of the fly-through as a symbolic representation of that
journey, and we would use it to weave together the words of Sinfonians
describing their experience. Since the video was all about a music
fraternity, I wanted the music to play an integral role as well. It
needed to be majectic and noble, all while growing into the song
shared by all Sinfonians, the Sinfonian Hymn. I also proposed that we
construct the film like a flvie trailer, in an effort to capture
interest and ultimately drive traffic to their website. Immediately
after the video release online, we received a very large quantity of
responses from brothers across the nation expressing their sincere
appreciation for the video and stating that it was an incredibly
accurate depiction of not just the surface level meaning of the
fraternity, but indeed the exalted experience shared by all
Sinfonians.
